With a deep passion for serving governmental entities, Michael has spent the last 15 years providing auditing and advisory services to municipalities, counties, schools districts, utility districts, higher education and special-purpose governments. His experience includes audit preparation and fieldwork, year-end close/audit preparation assistance, implementation of new GASB pronouncements (GASB 68, 75, 87, 96, 100, 101, and many others), complex accounting and reporting requirements, risk assessments, internal control reviews, grant compliance, state compliance, assistance creating/updating policies and procedures, and the preparation of annual financial reports (AFR)/annual comprehensive financial reports (ACFR) and schedules of expenditures of federal/state awards (SEFA/SESA). Michael has worked with various types of local governments, including counties, municipalities, retirement systems and schools. 

Prior to joining Cherry Bekaert, Michael spent nearly 13 years with a CPA firm dedicated exclusively to providing audit and support services to local governments.
